2025 HE ‘ŌLELO OLA: HILO FIELD STUDY
The Hilo Field Study will be occurring immediately following ICLDC 9 on March 10th and 11th, 2025. This year, the theme is “No ʻAneʻi Ko Kākou Ola” (Our Identity Is From This Place). Through theme-based panels on existing Hilo-based Hawaiian language consortium approaches of preparing students to live in communities where Indigenous languages are still minority languages in their own lands, as well as optional site visits, the field study seeks to connect Hawaiian language revitalization efforts to the larger language revitalization efforts in the U.S. and internationally. The Hilo consortium provides resources and expertise to connect diaspora Native Hawaiian communities back to the homeland and its traditional culture.
The Hilo Field Study requires inter-island travel from Honolulu, Oʻahu to Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island, and registration and fees are separate from ICLDC 9. Registration is possible until February 9th, 2025. Please see their website for more information and to register.
